We didn't set out to build a company. We set out to stop wasting good tanks.
IBC Solutions Illinois is a circular-economy company in Peoria. We buy, recondition, transport, upcycle and — only as a last resort — recycle IBC totes.
The short answer
Founded in 2016 in Peoria, Illinois, IBC Solutions Illinois turned a salvage-yard side hustle into a full circular hub. Today we handle the entire tote lifecycle in-house so tanks stay in reuse instead of heading to a shredder or landfill.

2018
The first wash line
Demand outgrew the garden hose. We built a proper hot-water triple-wash line and started grading tanks by prior contents.
2020
Rebottling changes everything
Instead of scrapping tanks with tired bottles, we began dropping fresh bottles into reclaimed cages — keeping the heaviest parts in service indefinitely.
2022
Wheels on the loop
We added our own transport so empties could ride back on the same routes that delivered full totes, killing empty-mile emissions.
2024
Third lives & recovery
Our makers began upcycling end-of-life tanks into rain harvesters and planters, and we closed the loop with zero-landfill material recovery.

The origin story
A Peoria farmer, a hundred-dollar tote, and an idea that wouldn't quit.
It started with a single phone call from a corn farmer outside Peoria who couldn't justify paying $350 for a brand-new IBC tote when all he needed was something to collect rooftop rainwater. We found him a rinsed tote for $60 and handed it over out of the corner of a salvage lot.
Then three more people called. Then twenty. By the end of the first year we were moving totes to irrigation operations, small chemical blenders, and industrial facilities across Central Illinois — all of whom had the same complaint: new tanks were expensive, used tanks were a guessing game, and nobody seemed interested in the middle ground of clean, documented, reliable reconditioned totes.
So we built that middle ground. We invested in a real wash line, hired our first technicians, and developed a grading system rigorous enough that food producers would trust it. The rest, as they say, is tote history.

Our reconditioning standard
How we grade every tote — no shortcuts, no mystery tanks.
Our six-step grading protocol was built to satisfy food-safety auditors and industrial safety officers alike. Here's exactly what happens between "incoming empty" and "tagged and ready to ship."

Prior-contents ID
Every incoming tote is logged against its label, residue and any available manifests. Unknown provenance tanks are quarantined until we can verify — or they go straight to material recovery.

Visual & structural inspection
Cage weld integrity, valve seat condition, bottle UV-stress cracking, pallet block damage — our techs run a 14-point physical checklist before the tote ever reaches the wash bay.

Hot-water triple wash
Food-grade candidates get three passes at 180 °F with NSF-approved detergent. Industrial-grade totes get two passes and a rinse. Every wash is timed and temperature-logged.

Pressure & leak test
Post-wash, the bottle is pressurized and inspected for seeps at the valve seat, vent, and any previous fill-point patches. Failures are rebottled or downgraded — not shipped.

Grade assignment & tagging
Each tote receives a color-coded hang tag: Food-Grade (green), Industrial/Rinsed (yellow), Rebottled (blue), or Upcycle Candidate (red). The tag lists prior contents, wash date, and technician ID.

Documentation package
Every sold tote ships with a one-page certificate of reconditioning — prior contents, wash protocol, test pass date, grade, and our contact. Auditors love us for it.

Our facility at 8798 N Pioneer Rd on Peoria's northwest side runs the full lifecycle: receiving bay, inspection station, hot-water wash line, pressure-test rig, rebottling station, upcycle workshop, and a staged dispatch yard for outbound orders. When you buy a tote from us, it never left the building without our hands on it.
Central Illinois location means we're a reasonable drive from Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis and the Quad Cities — close enough for local pickup, well-positioned for Midwest freight routes. Questions about who we are
What does "circular economy" actually mean for an IBC tote company?
It means every tote we touch gets pushed as high up the value ladder as it can safely go. We buy empties, sort them by prior contents and condition, recondition the ones that can go back to work, rebottle cages when the bottle wears out but the steel is fine, upcycle end-of-life units into rain harvesters and planters, and only then shred the last ~5% of material into recycled HDPE and steel. Landfill is not a step on that ladder.
Are your food-grade totes actually safe for food contact?
Yes — provided prior contents were food-compatible. Every food-grade tote we sell was previously used for a food-safe product, triple-washed at 180 °F with NSF-approved detergent, pressure-tested, and documented. The hang tag and certificate of reconditioning tell the full story. If you're storing a regulated product, we recommend you share the certificate with your QA team before filling.
Where is your facility, and can I come pick up in person?
We're at 8798 N Pioneer Rd, Peoria, IL 61615, on the northwest side of the city off Il-91. Yes — pickup is available and often the fastest option for Central Illinois customers. Just email us first so we can have your order staged and a gate slot ready. Walk-in browsing is welcome during business hours (Mon–Fri 7–5, Sat 8–noon).
Do you serve customers outside Illinois?
Absolutely. Illinois & the greater Midwest is our standard delivery footprint. We regularly ship to Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, and Michigan. For full truckloads (40 totes) freight economics usually work out nicely even at longer distances. Email us a ZIP and quantity and we'll quote it straight.
What happens to totes that can't be reconditioned?
That depends on the failure mode. Cages with worn-out bottles get rebottled — the steel cage often outlasts two or three HDPE bottles. Bottles with UV cracking but no chemical contamination become planters or rain-catchment vessels in our upcycle line. Only frames or plastic that can't be safely repurposed go to certified metal recyclers or HDPE grinders, and none of it goes to landfill.
How do you handle totes that held hazardous materials?
We do not recondition totes that held UN-classified hazardous materials unless they are triple-washed, purged and cleared by the prior owner's SDS and our own testing protocol. Totes with irreversible contamination go to our materials-recovery partner, not back into the supply chain. If you're bringing us empties from a hazmats operation, please include the SDS in your email — it speeds up triage enormously.
